Exhibition : CHAIRS 80S

We are pleased to announce that exhibition “CHAIRS 80S” takes place from August 27th  until September 11th.
In this exhibition, we show some Kuramata’s proto type chairs, chairs of Masanori Umeda, Rei Kawakubo (Comme des garçons)  and other Japanese designers and foreign designers.
Recently eighties designs are being revalued, and getting popularity more and more. Please come and see our ingenious chairs from eighties.

Sofa with Arms (Prototype)
Designer: Shiro Kuramata

Prototype for Sofa with Arms was made by Ishimaru in 1982. Steel pipe is one of the materials which Kuramata was seeking for in those days. He completed it with bent steel pipe and impression of the floating seat from the ground. Precious Piece, original yellow fabric.

   

Chair for Livina Yamagiwa

In 1982, Kuramata designed the whole space for Livina Yamagiwa showroom which had eight floors. This chair was designed especially for that space. Only 6 quantities produced and used for.

In 1988, Kuramata designed the whole space for café Piacere, and this chair is for it. Acrylic–it’s his representative material,–is adopted for the back. You can feel transparency from this.


 
Kiyotomo (Prototype)

Kiyotomo was sushi restaurant in Tokyo. It was decided to be moved to and be in the permanent collection of M plus museum in Hong Kong. This is the prototype for chair of Kiyotomo. The form that Kuramata wanted at first has thinner legs than practical use one as be seen in this.

These are in Neo classical style that appeared in the late 80s. Ueki put traditional chairs to things that have the appearance of a little new interpretation.

The chaise longue designed by Antonio Citterio in 1986. Seat fabric which B&B italia was developing weaving fabrics with Dennis Santachiara in those days has really 80s mood.
